Membership

The AABC offers a number of different membership categories available to those interested in joining our association.

The membership year runs from April 1 - March 31.

Membership categories are described below and your application can be completed and paid online by credit card (VISA or Mastercard) through our secure, online membership platform. At this time we do not accept American Express or International Bank Transfers.

Membership Categories, Fees, and Benefits


  • Changes to membership fees and categories as updated below will come into effect for the April 1, 2025 membership year.
  • All membership fees are in Canadian dollars (CAD).

Institutional Membership

Annual Membership Fee: $72.00 - $500.00 (see below)

Institutional membership is open to those institutions that are engaged in the identification, preservation, and use of archival records and have paid the annual membership fee of the Association. An institutional member in good standing shall designate only one representative to vote at all meetings and to be eligible to hold office in the AABC.

Benefits:

  • Advisory services by phone, email, and onsite visits
  • Access to MemoryBC to post and edit descriptions
  • Access to emergency recovery supplies
  • Member rate (per person) for up to 3 employees for educational opportunities, including distance education courses and workshops 
  • Member rate (per person) for up to 3 employees for conferences 
  • Inclusion in the Membership Directory
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting (for designated representative)
Operating Budget  =  Annual Membership Fee (based on an institution’s annual budget for archival operations, including salaries and operating expenses.)

$0 - $30,000 = $72.00

$30,001 - $75,000  =  $120.00

$75,001 - $150,000 = $200.00

$150,001 - $300,000 = $260.00

$300,001 - $500,000 = $380.00

$500,001 + = $500.00


Institutional Membership - Community

Annual Membership Fee: $35.00

Institutional Community membership includes Indigenous communities or programs, BIPOC community archives, non-profits, and organizations undertaking archival work. An Institutional Community member in good standing shall designate only one representative to vote at all meetings and to be eligible to hold office in the AABC.

  • Advisory services by phone, email, and onsite visits
  • Access to MemoryBC to post and edit descriptions
  • Access to emergency recovery supplies
  • Member rate (per person) for up to 3 employees/volunteers for educational opportunities, including distance education courses and workshops 
  • Member rate (per person) for up to 3 employees/volunteers for conferences 
  • Inclusion in the Membership Directory
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting (for designated representative)


Individual Membership

Annual Membership Fee: $72.00

Individual membership is open to individuals who support the objectives of the AABC and/or who are engaged in archival work.

Benefits:

  • Member rate for educational opportunities, including distance education courses and workshops
  • Member rate for conferences
  • Inclusion in the Membership Directory
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting


Individual Membership - Community

Annual Membership Fee: $25.00

Individual Community membership is open to Indigenous or BIPOC individuals engaged in archival work.

  • Member rate for conferences
  • Inclusion in the Membership Directory
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting


Individual Membership - Retired or Unpaid Volunteer

Annual Membership Fee: $25.00

Individual membership for those who are retired or who are working in an unpaid, volunteer capacity in an archive.

Benefits:

  • Member rate for educational opportunities, including distance education courses and workshops
  • Member rate for conferences
  • Inclusion in the Membership Directory
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting


Student Membership

Membership Fee for 3 years: $72.00 

Student membership is open to individuals who are currently registered full-time in a Community College or University program pursuing information degrees to undertake archival work. The student membership fee is an inclusive price for 3 years.

  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting


Sustaining Membership

Annual Membership Fee: $96.00

Sustaining members are individuals who wish to support the work of the AABC by contributing an annual fee in excess of the standard individual membership fee.

  • Inclusion in the Membership Directory
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Eligibility to run for executive office and vote in the Annual General Meeting


Affiliate Membership

Annual Membership Fee: $72.00 

Affiliate membership is open to those organizations that support the constitution of the AABC, are engaged in or interested in archival work, and have paid the annual membership fee of the Association. This membership category is non-voting and members are not eligible for advisory services or MemoryBC.

Benefits:

  • Member rate for conference (for 1 employee)
  • Professional development and networking opportunities
  • Discounted rates on trade tables and sponsorships for conferences
  • Profile listing and linked logo in the online directory of service providers 


Honorary Life

Honorary life membership shall be accorded by a majority vote to persons who are distinguished for their archives work, or who have rendered distinguished service to the AABC, or who are otherwise deemed worthy of the honour.
